What exactly is weaning?

I have kittens 6 week old still nursing and also eating wet food. At what moment precisely are they ready to be given away?
Answers:
weaning is in fact a 2 step process where in the first step they transition from nursing off mother to solid food and second step in intercat socialization skills between mother and siblings which is a form of imprinting so that the kitten can develop into a proper cat. On average weaning is completed by 10 to 12 weeks of age. Federal law though dictates that it is illegal to sell any dog or cat prior to 8 weeks of age.
They are ready when they no longer drink their mother's milk and can eat by themselves.
As soon as they stop depending on their mother for food, and its always good to have them box trained before sending them off!
it's when you use a wall or something sturdy to support yourself so you don't have to stand straight up
give them at least two more weeks and they will be ready...the mom will try to get them to wean by stopping less often for them to feed.
Weaning is " to accustom (as a child) to take food otherwise than by nursing"

So basically once the kitten is independent and can manage almost on her own(with the help of the mother's guidance of course).
In addition to not giving them away while they are still nursing, they should be at least 8 weeks old before you find them new homes.

Weaning is slowly getting baby animals who no longer have an urgent need to nurse and get milk from their mommy to stop nursing.
they are ready after 8 weeks old. not only do they have to be "weaned" properly, but also properly socialised, and this is done by keeping them with their brothers and sisters and mother.
Do NOT seperate them earlier than this.

weaning is simply when kittens are changing their diet over from only drinking their mothers milk to eating hard kitten food. its also the time when they become more independant from their mother.
they finish weaning around 8 weeks old.

its best to wait until 8 weeks
The mother will gradually breast feed the kittens less and wean them into eating and drinking on their own, generally they can be given away safely at about eight weeks.
Hope this helps and good luck with your kittens.
