What does it mean when a cat, sitting on your lap, kneads a spot (leg or abd.) before settling with you?

Answers:
It means: 'All is well, I'm happy and content, and I've found a comfy spot to snooze on. Now don't move'!
Kneading is a sign of affection, contentment, and comfort.
It's instinctual. Kittens do that when they are feeding with their mother to promote milk flow. It's a trust thing when they're older, it means they feel comfortable with you.
my brother's cat kneads his stomach all the time and purrs.

he's just saying he's very comfortable and content with his surroundings, his life and most especially, his human.

and its the cutest thing I've ever seen.
Kittens do this on their mothers to get milk. Kneading is done to stimulate the mom cats nipples to encourage milk flow. If a cat does this to you the cat is showing it's content and pretty much saying you're a mother figure to it. Take it as a compliment...he feels happy.
he or she is just tryin to adjust the laying spot to be more comfortable
Did you ever watch kittens when nursing their mom? thats how they do when nursing. It stimulates the mammory glands and helps the milk flow.So they are very comfy with you to do that.
some people call it making biscuits. cats do that as a sign of affection.
Take it as a compliment. Your kitty is comfortable with you, and loves you. This is what kittens do to their moms when they are nursing them.
