What could cause a kitten to have trouble meowing?

I found an orphan kitten a week or so ago. She eats well (is actually getting a tummy... is that bad?) and is playful and seems healthy. Except on occasion it seems she's forgotten how to meow. She'll try but nothing will come out but a small grunt. Could something be wrong?
Answers:
if she can meow, and it doesnt sound unsual when she does actually do it, and shes eating fine... then shes probably yawning or stretching and not actually trying to meow.
.
it could be alot of things...but how ould is the kittie.if tis really young..then it has really devalop.. if its a bit older like a few weeks then there is some thing else wrong.but you should take it to a vet..
and the fat part is a very very good thing
In the language of cats there is the "silent" meow. I have one cat out of five that almost exclusively uses this meow. I have although heard her actually meow but very softly. This silent meow does have some significance. I believe it means the cat is very content and secure in its environment.
