What does it mean when a kitten's gum is almost white or pale gray?

And why does my kitten sounds like he's coughing or about to cough up hair balls but nothing coming out. This one is about 7wks. The other is about 4. The younger one is the one with the pale gums. I just found her.
Answers:
Your baby with the white gums is probably anemic, I have a kitten that we adopted after a neighbor found him in the engine compartment of his car. I picked about 75 fleas off of his tiny little body, his gums were almost white. I fed him an all natural, meat based, wet food from Petsmart for 2 weeks and he was doing much better. He could also have a severe intestinal parasite problem, kittens do need to be wormed, but it cannot be done until they are over 8 weeks old.

As for his coughing, these symptoms are brought on by lower respiratory track problems and can be caused by everything to his inhaling of irritants like gasses or dirt, to bronchitis to the Cat Flu. The cause can be a viral, a bacterial, or a parasitic worm infection, or just an allergic reaction. Because he has been coughing the last couple of days you are best off taking him to the vet to get him treated soon. The sooner you take care of any respiratory track infections the less likely that he will have permanent damage and future problems in that area.
It could also be cat flu, which is VERY serious, allergies, or kennel cough. To check for parasites look at his little bum (and his stool) and see if there are any white or yellowish white spots (the yellowish ones are dead). They living ones actually squirm.
With any new kitten, you should seriously consider going to the vet. Better safe than sorry.
Bad that means she sick. Get her to the vet.
Your kittens are full of worms; seriously, they need to be wormed every couple of weeks when they are small, and pale gums is a symptom, as the worms make the kittens anemic. Get them wormed today!
It means that you need to take him to the vet! That could be serious dehidration.
I think pale gums is a sign of a blood disorder, like leukemia. I know it's always something the vets check out. Maybe Heart Worms. Not sure but I'd take them to a vet. The one with the coughing might need to be wormed.
it means you should go to the vet immediately with your kitten. the vet is better at working out what these things means.
I hate to alarm you, but check the inside of her eyes, where it should be pink - if that is also pale that's not good. Also, check her hydration levels, pull the skin away from the body and if it doesn't pull back as quickly as normal, get the cat to the vet ASAP, it sounds like billary, and that's not good for a cat. It can be trewated, but the quicker they start treatment the better the chances of saving the animal.
enough blood isnt getting to the mouth area
