What do I do with this Cat?

Okay, We got a 1 yr old male cat 2 wks ago. He came unfixed, and Cried to get out all the time. At night it has been so bad, it keeps us all up. We put him in a kennel in the garage, but he goes potty in their (poo and pee), and its gross, and I have to wash him and the kennel every morning when I have done that, and its a problem when its cold at night. We had him fixed about 5 days ago. And he still is Crying all night. I know I need to give it about a week longer before all the hormones are out of his system, but what do I do in the mean time? ??? How many more sleepless nights can I take? My hubby got him to be quiet once by spraying him with water, but now the cat hiss's at him, and hides from him =( Any suggestions?

Poor little guy is probably just still adjusting to a new home and new people! I applaud you for getting him fixed! But that will not necessarily stop him from vocalizing at night. There could be several different reasons that he is crying all night long. I just adopted a kitty a couple of weeks ago as well. She has neurological damage so her case might be a bit different, but she too cries at night. And I have not slept very well since I brought her home either, lol. She goes downstairs and wanders around crying loudly. I go down and pick her up and bring her back to the bedroom and tell her it is bedtime. She seems to be improving with the night vocalizing, and is doing it less and less now.:) If you do not have a little bed for your new cat to sleep in inside your bedroom, I would put one there. When he cries, go get him and gently tell him it is bed time. He might be lonely, or feel lost in your new home. There is always an adjustment period when you bring a new pet home. This is to be expected. Be patient and treat him with love and kindness. I believe that the behavior is more likely to change with kindness and understanding, than with spraying water. I wish you and your new kitty the best of luck! And I hope that you both are able to get a good night's sleep very soon!:)
Neuter him. That will stop all the crying.
It sounds to me like he is an outdoor cat. Try contacting some doctors and explain the situation.
ok well i would get him fixed imediatly. i believe that is the only way to get him to stop.
Give him a lot of attention during the day and try to put him in a room of the house, where you can't hear him, and put the litter box and other things in there for him at night. Most likely, like you said, the testosterone should be at a level thats not driving him and you nuts in about 5 days or so. He should calm down. If this behavior continues take him back to the vet and have him checked out to make sure that there isn't something else going on. Good Luck
Hi

Not trying to be a wiseguy or anything but wjy not allow him to be an indoor outdoor cat. My cats are allowed outdoors and are all brought inide before bed.
Best of luck
Do you live in a safe place where he can go outside? If so, let him out, he'll let you know when he wants back in the house. Believe me he will let you know!!! Try giving him lots of loving and cuddling. I have a little female cat that my husband found running wild where he worked five years ago and she has not been out of the house since, but the other five I have love it outside. Don't worry about the cold cause cats will find a place to stay warm. I have a felling your husband might have made an enemy by spraying the cat, he will need to try to get back in the cats good graces by being nice and calm around it. There is one more thing you can try if your hubby agrees, and that is to put the cat in bed with you at night and cuddle and pet him till he falls asleep.
I assume that you are not aware of his history, I hope that the cat is more close to you . He obviously is scared and by placing him in the garage this will only intensify his fear. Have you tried placing him by your bed? If this is not an option you may wish to place something personal from you in his cage, e.g. sweater etc., something that will have you scent. In addition try a radio or a clock. I know from experience that cats when placed in a strange home or area they react with inappropriate behavior. It takes time with the training, but keep him confined, when he starts using the litter box praise him and perhaps move him to a room.
you said you got the cat 2 weeks ago..did u ever stop and think maybe he is afraid? i mean he is a 1yr old cat im sure he had a stable enviorment at one point..this is a new situation for him! he is nervous and scared and probley very home sick and feeling abandoned and all sorts of feelings..just think back to when you were a 8yr old child..by the time u were 8yrs old u loved your parents and your home..you were bonded with your parents..how would u feel if they dumped u off at a strangers home and left you there for 2 weeks! yes the first few days u might have thought they were coming back for you..all this cat can do is cry out and wait for somebody to hear and understand him..i dont think it has much to do with the neutering..i have 5 males that were not neutered until they were 11mo and the only time they cried is when they were looking for a spot to mark thier urine..give this boy some extra love..i understand u must be very tired but he is very scared in your new home and probley doesnt feel very welcome after being kept in the garage..i hope this didn't come across as harsh hunni..i was by no means trying to be mean.i hope this all works out for you..if it doesnt send the little guy to my home!!!
Forgive me if this seems insulting but you have a cat box for him right? I have never met a cat that won't use one. If your garage connects to your house then put in a cat door and put the cat box in the garage. Don't kennel him and don't let him outside at all. make sure he knows where his box is and let him explore. He will need about 3 days to explore the house then he should settle down. If your garage doesn't connect to the house then you put the cat box in your house which sucks a bit but isn't to bad if you clean it daily. Cats don't like cages and need to be able to bury their waste. If he's in a cage with no cat box then he is going to scream his head off till you change things. If you think cleaning him is bad how do you think he feels since he has to use his tongue?
It takes two to four weeks AFTER a male cat has been neutered before all mating urges go away. From what you have described, perhaps you did not know what you were getting into with a pet, especially a cat. A cat takes about the same amount of time, effort, support, and love as a three or four year old child. Cats are not dogs. Many persons, with good intentions, adopt or take in a cat expecting behavior similar to a dog. This is not the case. I would advise you to read up on cat behavior or consult a vet, or your local Animal Protective League or ASPCA, as to how the cat you have can have its' behavior modified. It takes patience and love, not a water hose ! I have five cats and have no problems with any of them. They all know their names, come when called, sit when given that command and lay down when given that command. However, this took many, many months of positive teaching for them to do these things. Also, cats, like people, each have their own personality. Some learn quickly, some learn more slowly. Some are shy, some are outgoing. Again, seek some professional advice on how to handle your situation. Please, use the hose for watering the lawn and washing the car. Cats are very unique animals....get to know them as they were intended to be.
