What do I need to do before I buy a kitten?

What do I need to know and what do I have to do exactly on how to take care of a kitten/cat.
Answers:
you need kitten food, a litter box, litter, a scratch pad, and definitely lots of toys! my kitten loved the ones that are like wands with long strings on them that you can twirl around...

enjoy your kitten!! i wish i could get another...
You need a litter box, litter, litter box scoop, food bowl and dish and a brush. Thats it! Good quality food, a warm place to sleep and proper vet exams and shots. Lots and lots of TLC
MAKE SURE THE KITTEN ISN'T ALLERGIES TO NO FOOD HAVE THE FOOD AND WATER BOWLS READY FOR IT HAVE A LITTER BOX FOR IT HAVE TOYS BECAUSE KITTENS ARE SO PLAYFUL. WHEN THE KITTEN COMES TO YOUR HOUSE PICK IT UP AND SHOW IT WHERE ITS FOOD, WATER, AND LITTER BOX IS SO THE KITTEN WILL KNOW WHERE TO GO. AFTER YOU SHOW THE KITTEN THAT SHOW IT THE ROOM YOU WANT IT TO BE IN LET IT WALK AROUND AND CHECK OUT ITS NEW HOUSE .
make sure there aren't any small things the kitten could chew and choke on. They like dangly things. Make sure all doors and places kittens could get trapped in are shut. Leave plenty of food and water where it can find it... and make sure it knows where the litterbox is. If you have a BIG house I would have at least 2 boxes.

When I first had my kitten I kept a box upstairs, because thats where I slept and hung out a lot... but also kept one on the main floor because that was where I hung out because of the kitchen was or my computer room etc... and at first my kitten didn't know the house...
Well your supply list should include:

kitten food, a water bowl, a food bowl, toys, a litter box, cat litter, nail trimmers, a scratching post, a brush, and treats.
As for other resposibilities, make sure you have a vet you like and trust, and understand that owning a cat isn't cheap. Regular checkups, neuter/spay, possibly declawing, medications if needed...all of these can cost hundreds of dollars. Make sure your kitty gets fresh food and water daily and that you PLAY! Kittens are extremely playful and entertaining which makes them wonderful companions. Brush daily and bathe as necessary.

Also, if you aren't sure where you're getting your cat yet, please consider adopting a homeless cat or kitten. Try http://www.petfinder.com for a list of local shelters which may have kittens in need of homes. You'll find that it's often much cheaper and a much more worthwhile way to obtain a pet.
u need the following:
2bowls for food%26water
kitten food
litter box%26cat litter to go with(unless it will b trained to go out side)
toys
brush
kitten bathing appliances
a soft, comfortable bed
think of a name
make ur house safe for the kitten(no holes or places where it can fall down in a hole or get hert, no cords to get tangled in cause(possible sufacation)
Well this might seem silly but.A kitten is almost gust like a baby. You have to leave a food of dish down for her every day. Also a blow of water.Never give the kitten to much milk.Only once in a great while. They will get sick from that.I learned on mine.Plus always try and get there shouts done you can.
OK well make sure that you have a litter box,a food and water bowl, and a brush for her or his fur...that is very important and you need to change the cats litter 2 times a day. It can get really smelly and put new fresh water every day and on hot days your cat will be very hot so it might drink alot of water you have to make sure that it is cold!! Do not forget to brush your cats fur everyday or every other day. If you feed your cat wet food everyday its teeth will not be strong at all it wont be able to bite hard or crunchy things. its better to give it dry food but every once and a while treat your cat with some wet food they love it you can mix it with the dry food or just give it to the cat. If you want your cat to learn tricks get him or her some cat treats or if its being a good cat give it one. But do not give it more then 1 a day if you give it more the cat will get sick and that's it for now but if you have anymore questions just feel free to ask me and i will answer you.
Hey there,

So there are a few things you should obtain and learn about kittens first hand. I'll try to provide some sources below where you can learn more.

Basic Necessities:

- Litter box, litter and a pooper scooper
- Cat food
- Water and food bowl
- Grooming brush and supplies (like kittie toothbrush/paste)
- Scratching post and lots of toys!
- Cat carrier
- Cat bed
- ER vet contacts
- Regular veterinary contacts
- Money set aside for vet care (consider pet insurance)
- Collar/name tag - or consider microchipping :)

First (I'll give you some links with this information):

- Know and learn how to recognize abnormal problems that could indicate a health issue. This will help you know when you need to take your cat to the vet.

- Understand the foods/drugs/things that can be harmful to your pet if swallowed.

- Make sure that you leave any small objects that could be harmful or ingested locked away.

Here is a great link that has categories to help you:

Good luck!
Education is the first key. Read any books you can find on kitten care. Don't be fooled into thinking that kittens are easy and require little care. That is simply not true! Cats are nocturnal by nature so be ready for loads of annoyances at night. Educate yourself fully on how to litter box train, vaccines, ear mites, fleas, worms, etc. Here are some wonderful sites to help get you started:
