Wellness Brand cat food too rich for cat's belly?

I put my two 6 mo. old kitties on Wellness Complete Health dry cat food about a month ago. One kitty has allergies,( always scratching, licking, chewing) so I'm trying foods without grains. However, the other kitty developed diarrhea for 3 weeks! Took him to the vet, they ran a bunch of tests, and he is fine, so she believes the Wellness food must be too rich for his stomach. She prescribed a presciption line of Royal Canin cat food that is $35.00 for a 3 lb bag! $140 a month in cat food just isn't in my budget right now. Can anyone recommend another food without grains that isn't so rich to give him diarrhea? Forget trying to seperate them for feeding.they have to be on the same food! Thanks!

The Complete Health dry versions of Wellness actually do contain grains (rice %26 barley). http://www.omhpet.com/wellness/cat_welln...

If you think grains may be a problem for your kitties, I would suggest trying the grain-free canned varities of Wellness instead. They have a little yellow triangle on the can that says 'grain free'. They work very well for my cat with a sensitive tummy. Some cats have a problem with foods that contain fish - I've noticed the Complete Health now contains Salmon meal. I would suggest that you try the canned varities without fish first, see if that settles the stomach, and then if you want to try a food that contains fish, just try a little bit %26 see if it works out.

See this link for a list of grain-free foods:

This link has info about the importance of canned food, especially for cats with sensitive tummies (IBD):

I believe that brands like Innova and Eukanuba are grain-free. It's also becoming popular to put your cat on a raw-food diet, but that's probably expensive. Innova is a little bit more expensive than usual food like Purina, but because it's nutritionally concentrated they don't need to eat as much of it. In the end, you're paying the same amount with Innova as you would with Purina or Iams - and certainly not $140 per month!
My cats really like Wellness, and seem to be doing really good on it. I would suggest taking this question to:

There is a lot of cat knowledgeable people on the forums, and there has been some great discussion about cat food, and cat nutrition. When I have a cat question, I usually check out this place first, and I know that this topic of wheat free diets has been talked about.

I can suggest that you try other cat foods - I know that Nature's Variety sells a grain free dry food, but don't know of any other.
Hi
Welness is normally high quality. Unfortunatly, the dry food is just as much like most other dry foods---garbage. cats are carnivores and don't need the carbs that comes with dry food.
Wellness canned is a great quality food with fancy feast(no gravy) a step below but any canned foods are better then dry foods for cats and can help you avoid problems later on.
As far as the prescription foods go, well they hold no special value and are very poor quality.
Some of the fancy feasts have gluten but most do not so check the labels
