What can I do for my cats loosing hair from a flea treatment?

I used the Sergeants Natures Guardian flea treatment (please let everyone know this is a bad product) and it burned the skin on my 12 year old cat. She has very short thin hair to begin with. This was a week ago and I got as much of the treatment off her that I could. The problem is now she dropping clumps of hair and there are some bald spots on her neck where she has scratched herself. I don't find any signs of infection or redness, just bald spots that look scabbed over.
Answers:
The scabbed over bit is very disturbing. It sounds like she got poisoned or burned from the chemicals. You should take her to the vet for an examination and blood work to see what the problem is. Keep a good record of everything in case you need to file a law suit against Sergeants. I hope she will suffer no permanent damage!
Do not call the pest control people, unless they are there to "flea bomb" for you. Frankly, it's a waste of money. You can do the "bombing" yourself. Otherwise, thos people just dump chemicals in your house - a lot of bad chemicals and those do not necessarily help you or your cat.
Your cat can be treated with a flea bath (Dawn dish washing liquid works great to kill fleas - leave the lather on for 5 minutes then rinse thoroughly) if she gets healed up. Then she can be treated with either Advantage or Frontline drops on a monthly basis.
Meanwhile, you'll need to get your house clean from fleas. Thank goodness the weather is not too hot or cold now. First you'll need to "bomb" as mentioned before, and it has to be done twice. You'll have to vacate your house along with all animals for 4 hours, then air it for at least an hour or two while everyone is still out. Follow instructions carefully.
Next, your carpets must all be cleaned (including a cat tree if you have one). If you shampoo them, then vacuum when they a dry and if you have a lot of carpeting you may also have to spray a tiny bit of Advantage or Frontline into a cloth and rub it lightly over the carpeting. Send orientals out to be cleaned. If you have a spare bedroom that has carpeting that no one is using now, you can mix Borax and table salt 50/50 and work it very deeply into the carpeting. Let it remain for a week then vacuum it all up.
Meanwhile, you'll need to vacuum the whole house every day until the fleas are gone. You'll need to dispose of the bag every day after you do this and put it into a ziplock bag (or even 2) before it goes into the garbage.
Also, you'll need to gently comb out fleas and flea dirt from your cat every day until fleas are gone and not hatching out further (2-4 weeks minimum). You can stick the fleas you catch to a lint roller and then cut off their heads. Dispose of the sheets in ziplock bags.
There is no easy way to get rid of a flea infestation once it has established itself in your home. Dumping a lot of chemicals will not help and only can make everyone sick.
Regarding Frontline and Advantage, the fleas in your area will respond to one or the other, but not both. Call your vet to find out which work better in your area. All other products are either dangerous or worthless.
I hope your kitty is OK! Sorry to have to tell you all this, but you'll want to know it before you have further problems. When you begin to think "fleas are my life now!", just realize that it will all work out fine if you work to get control this way.
stop treatment and consult your vet. in addition you may want to employ a pest control company to spray your house as well. it could be the sensitivity of your cat too, others have used this product with out fail. good luck with your.... cat
stop using it and contact a vet
I would consult your veterinarian right away. They have products that you can use to control fleas and heart worm. Its called Resolution.
Talk to your veterinarian about possible treatments, you must first determine what kind of reaction she had to the flea treatment. If it is an acute allergic situation, a short course of corticosteroids (like prednisone) may be all she needs to recover. However, if something more chronic or permanent occurred, only your vet can prescribe the proper treatment and care.
some easy answers

1. your cat may be allergic.

2. Its getting summer time and cats are supposed to shed.

3. buy a diffrent shampoo/spray treatment
Stop using over the counter flea treatment on your cats. I use oil on my cats, and it suffocates the fleas and rids the cats of their fleas!
Veggie Oil
Olive Oil
Baby Oil

Any type of oil that you have in the house, use it. Leave it on the cats for a few hours, then use Dawn dish washing liquid to get all the oil out of the cat's fur, and the fleas are gone!

Also, you can give your cats garlic pills, and that will make the fleas go away. Go to the pill aisle at walmart and buy some garlic pills, and give one pill a day to each cat. No more fleas!

When you can use at-home treatments (natural remedies), you'll never have to WASTE money on flea treatment again!

Take Care
vet time. I can tell you that she must either be allergic to this treatment (which is from the dark ages man! join the 21st century and get some Frontline!) or she has a skin infection from the fleas. Now fleas are known to carry some pretty incideous diseases, one being a form of lice that causes a form of Mange. That sounds pretty much like what is happening to your pet.

so like I said . vet time

Good luck
well because it is such a common issue most people drownd their head in dry ice and dont shower for a bout six weeks if you want another method try rubing hydrogyne peroxide repedly on their back for ten minutes.i just wasted 10 minutes of your life that you can never ever get back okay now lets be seriuos just get a bunch of fake mustaches and paste them all over your head and your cat he will look like chewbacha from da da daaa star wars
Go on-line to Natures Guardian and find out what they say to do, or better yet call the poison control line (should be listed somewhere on the treatment) and give them the information. Find out what they have to say. In the mean time, most flea treatments any more last for 30 days. It is probably still in her system. You cat may go completely bald by the time this is done. I can't believe that it burned her. I would definitely let the company know. There may have been something added that was not supposed to be. You might save another cat going through the same thing. Please contact them. Depending on what the poison control center tells you, I would go to the pet store and get some conditioner designed for pets. I would rub this into the fur. It will help soften the skin and help the rest of the fur fall out which will get her on track toward healing. Please can you update this question, when you have more information? I would be real interested to know what they say about this.
You should take her to your vet or to a groomer for a good skin conditioning bath. The hair will grow back, don't worry about that.

Don't listen to that guy who suggests oil on you cat. Your cat licks off anything you put on them. Would you want a stomach full of oil?

Good luck.
that is so weird my cat is doing the same thin i took him to the on monday and the vet said to''shave him'' weird but its alredy looking lots better
