i have two pregnant cats mother and daughter they are very close (was a bit snappy with each other at ther begining of thier pregnancy but fine now) i put boxes down around my house as thier getting close to the due date they have picked the same box, sit in it together grooming each other all the time but my friends say i sould seperate them when the kittens arrive but they are the best of friends would they really harm each others babies? also as they are mother and daughter and live in the same house grooming each other is thier sent the same will the kittens get mixed up which is thier own mother is this a problem? (the younger cat is due about a week after the older one)
Answers:
Get them spayed as soon as their babies are weaned, please. Don't worry about them getting the kittens mixed up as long as everyone gets fed.
They might harm each others babies. No the sent isn't the same sent they won't get kittens mixed up.You will need to keep them separate for a few weeks after the kittens are born.I have seen animals in my own house trying to help raise the kittens. We did wait until the kittens were a few weeks older to let this happen. So the mother wouldn't freak out they are mothers first and they will go to any lengths to protect their young.
I think honestly it just depends on the cats temperament, personally I had 3 cats litter mates that went into heat at the same time and had their litters over a 3 day period (years ago) they all chose the same spot and all nursed their kittens and even each others. I think once the mother has her litter that the daughter will probably choose the other box, I'd suggest just wait and see, if the daughter growls at the mothers litter I'd suggest separating them.
