Does anyone have THREE cats?
we have a dog, primarily an outside dog, and two cats (two hamsters too, but were talking about the big animals right now, lol) the cats alternate from outside for a few hours, to inside most of the morning and night. My oldest cat, is becoming more mellow with age, and our younger cat who is 11 months old, really seems pretty bored with him, they rarely play because the older cats sleeps 99% of the day,we barely notice him sometimes, lol. So, I was thinking of rescuing another kitten (ALL my animals are rescues :)) Do you find its harder the more you get, or are is it just another mouth? My cats are fixed, had shots, and vet care so I take care of them financially, its the having another cat around part that I'm asking about. My guys are so easy, and maybe I just got lucky with them, or maybe all cats are good if you raise them right, so should I go for it? Give my 11 month old a friend? Pros? Cons?

Lordy the world needs more people like you. Thank you for rescuing these babies. I have had extensive experience with cats over the last 30years. All mine were rescues as well. I can understand the older cat being a bore to the younger one. That is natural I guess and in fact he should be respected and left in peace I think without a little ankle biter trying to get him to play. So it would seem that a third cat would be the answer to making your younger one a happy camper. Not only will it be happier with a playmate but it will also be less destructive. Young cats can get themselves into a lot of trouble when they get bored. If you decide to get another one, please take the time to introduce them properly. They need to get to know each other slowly if you are going to have happy cats. Also, make sure when the new one comes in you always make a fuss over the oldest one. They have their pecking order and he will become veeerrryy unhappy if he feels he is losing his alpha position. Feed him first, pet him first, greet him first when you come in. Now I feel I must tell you this. I have usually had 2 cats but on about 4 different occassions I have had to bring in another cat (usually to foster) that stayed for some time. I found that the third cat really made a difference to me in how much litter needed to be bought %26 cleaned and how much food needed to be purchased. Again, thank you for rescuing these animals. I would ask you to consider making them indoor cats only. They are so much safer and healthier when they stay indoors and the life expectancy for an indoor cat is much greater than for those allowed outside. Less vet bills too. Give it some thought and good luck with your decision.
P.S. If you decide to get a third cat and need help in how to introduce them, please email me privately and I will send you an article with suggestions on how to make it easier for all involved.
Either get a older cat about the same age if you're looking for company for the older cat. The local rescue should have a lot, and older cats simply aren't always as playful as a kitten. Or get a kitten to keep the other cats out of the older cat's face the whole time and give it some peace, LOL.
Yes - you're giving another cat a chance of a good life - there may be occasional fights but it'll be okay. I have 3+ - all rescued.
Keep up the good work
I actually have 4 cats and for me its just another one to feed and of course take care of. They keep each other company and dont bother anyone. The only con is that they tend to make trouble together. but nothing too serious and its rather fun to see them play. Id say go for it, just make sure the 2 young ones dont gang up on the older one! XD Good luck!
hon, i have 12. lol. for me it's just another mouth... to feed and love.
it sounds as if a third would be good... sounds like the kitten needs a buddy!
nope and they're not all good little angels... i have one phsyco you wouldn't believe!! glad yours are so great!
If you have the time, money and ability to support these animals (as you have proven already), why not?
A friend a friend! Trust me i know how much it sucks to be lonely.
Kudos for you honey! Sounds like you already know the answer. Adopting another cat from the shelter is a wonderful idea. It would give the younger one that you have, a playmate and you will be saving the life of one of Gods special little ones. I wish there were more responsible people like you. Sounds like you have a wonderful sense of caring. Keep up the good work!
As long as you have the money and space for a 3rd cat, I see nothing wrong with it.
Don't get a forth though, or you're at risk of becoming the crazy cat lady from the Simpsons. ;)
I own three cats. There ages are nine, three and two. When I got my middle one he seemed lonely being him and the older cat.I thought about it and then decided to get another cat so he had someone his age to play with. The two youngest adore each other they are best friends, they are always together. My oldest cat kind of just minds his own business and it really worked out nice and I wouldn't of did it any other way. I would defiantly go for it.
I have had three cats before and they all got along find after they got use to one another. I am glad you want to give another kitty a home.
I think you should. There are so many homeless cats out there so if you could adopt one that would be great. You seem to be able to give it a good home. I don't have three cats. i have one that I saved the day she was going to be put down. I am feeding a stray at the moment until I can find her original home.
Another cat? Absolutely!
